The project
At the Kortrijk campus of Hogeschool VIVES, a new building was designed for the VIVATO programme.
The learning environment has been conceived with a strong practical focus, featuring flexible classrooms, simulated hospital rooms and dedicated relaxation areas. The top floor comprises four large teaching spaces, each equipped with six bed bays, which can be used individually or combined. Thanks to the expansive glass façades, the hospital beds are visible from a distance, reinforcing the building’s educational identity.
The architecture aligns seamlessly with the institution’s vision of contemporary and future-oriented education.

De werken
The building adopts an L-shaped layout and, together with the existing infrastructure, encloses a green inner courtyard. A covered footbridge connects the new volume to the existing nursing building.
Along the south façade, a multifunctional secondary structure has been integrated, serving as solar shading, an external fire escape and a terrace. In time, this structure will evolve into a green façade.
Particular attention was given to functionality, comfort and sustainability throughout the design and construction process.
