The project

In the heart of Ypres, at Vandepeereboomplein, lies the project ‘De Ster’. On the former site of Carrefour Market, a new-build development is being realised in which the historic 1922 façade is preserved and carefully integrated into the design.

The building combines commercial and residential functions: the ground floor accommodates a retail space of 1,390 m², while the upper floors house six spacious apartments, each overlooking a shared inner courtyard.

The works

The works include the demolition of the existing structure, with the exception of the protected façade, and the construction of a new volume designed with respect for the site’s heritage character.

The apartments are accessible by lift and will be finished using durable, high-quality materials. The roof will feature a mansard structure clad in natural slate, echoing the classical appearance of the historic front façade.

The project is being realised in collaboration with noArchitecten (architecture) and Cobe Ingenieurs (structural engineering).
