The project
In Stekene, a new community centre is being developed adjacent to the sports complex ‘De Sportstek’. The building will serve as a central meeting place for the municipality, accommodating a modern library, a multipurpose hall, a theatre auditorium, offices for municipal staff, and various support facilities. Wide, light-filled corridors connect the different functions and form an “internal village street” — an inviting space where residents can meet and interact. The surrounding public realm further reinforces this role: a welcoming forecourt, landscaped green areas and an amphitheatre create a strong connection with the surroundings and enhance the link to the village centre.

The works
This project is being delivered by us under a Design & Build contract. Sustainability plays a key role throughout: the building will be heated entirely fossil-free using geothermal energy and will be equipped with an energy-efficient ventilation system. The choice of materials and the architectural design are carefully aligned with the warm, community-oriented character of Stekene. As a result, the community centre will not merely be a new building, but a meaningful reinforcement of the municipality’s social and cultural fabric.
